In 1964, Marshall McLuhan declared that the "medium is the message." In doing so he was pointing out that the way a message is delivered is ultimately more important than the actual content. We now know that this plays out on many levels. Body language is more important than what we say; a picture is worth a thousand words; and songs change the world more than laws.

The way we receive information conveys as much about the message as the actual content. For example, I know that only about 20% of you will read an email, no matter what the content. But If I sent you a hand written note, the percentage would go up to near 100% even if I had nothing to say. The medium conveys the perceived importance.

That is why I am excited about helping my clients design and produce books. If something is printed in book form, it immediately has more perceived value than just about any other medium.

In 2005 I wrote book titled, "Saving the World...One Latte at a Time, The Story of Homer's Coffee House." It was a book about my life and how I came to open Homer's Coffee House. The book immedialetly gave me and the coffeehouse crediblity.

Later I learned about the exciting new world of one-off, print-on-demand, and short-run publishing and I produced a hard-cover book about our cat, Bonnie, as a gift for my wife. She was thrilled as was everyone who saw the book.

I then helped my mother produce a family history book which went to all the relatives at Christmas time. My Mother then wrote a 300-page memoir which we self-published. It is selling well.

In the meantime I wrote a guidebook to digital photography which I sold to another publisher.

Since then we have published books about a large event for a client of my brother's, our family trip to Chicago, a coffee table book called "The Cafes of France," a book about the 1973 Ozark Mountain Folk Fair, and a photobook of architectural subjects.

Am I a book published? Maybe. Am I an expert on book publishing? Absolutley not. Can I help you with your book idea? Sure, let's give it a shot!

Give me a call and we can brainstorm together about how you might be able to use a book, or a series of books, in your business or marketing.

To order any of the mentioned books, call or email, "Saving the World One Latte at a Time" is $8.95, "Living and Loving" is $15.00.
