Prince Rupert, British Columbia - June 27, 2007 |

Intro page We docked at Prince Rupert at 8:00 AM Wednesday morning. We had a nice breakfast and went for a walk downtown. Then lunch on the ship. While Mother took a nap, I went for a walk to Cow Bay. Cow Bay was so named for the Swiss dairyman who unloaded the first herd of dairy cows there. The dock had yet to be built so the cows had to swim from a barge.
Prince Rupert was founded in the early 1900’s as the terminus of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railroad. It is now mainly a fishing town, or was one T-shirt said, "Prince Rupert is drinking town with a fishing problem." I had a latte at Cowpuccinno’s. This is cute coffeehouse with a lot of silly stuff, such as a sign over the door, “Out of bounds, no skiing beyond this point.” I caused a little confusion for the barista when I paid with a combination of US and Canadian currency. The prices are different depending upon the currency used. I left the little Canadian change I had as tip. |
